nice, not ice

.I am so glad to be in Florida, not one of the 47 states beset with snow and sleet. I abhor cold weather, and I disliked dealing with snow when I resided briefly in Pennsylvania. In Korea we had light snowfalls which weren’t bothersome, but the air was so bitterly cold in winters. The tops of my ears were frostbit one year.

Tropical Depression Parma

Parma, which was a Tropical Depression, then a Tropical Storm, later a Typhoon, then downgraded to a Tropical Storm, and is now a Tropical Depression, has passed over Luzon three times since it October 3! North and Central Luzon are very waterlogged. 17 Filipinos (or more) have died. I’m glad that I’m not in Baguio City!

flooding kills 280+

The Philippines government reports that 240 people are known to have died in severe flooding caused by Tropical Storm Ketsana.

The country has appealed for foreign aid to deal with the disaster which has displaced more than 450,000 people, including 375,000 people who are in makeshift shelters. »→

Petit Le Mans race officials declared the race finished about 8 p.m., after hours of suspension. Only 467 of the scheduled 1,000 miles of the Petit Le Mans sports car race had been run before heavy rain caused the American Le Mans Series to stop the race due to flooding on track.

rain on Road Atlanta

I didn’t go to Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, to watch the Petit LeMans 10 hour/1,0000-mile sports car race because I’m jobless and broke and thus can’t afford gasoline, lodging and admission ticket. My used car has a broken front engine mount, so until that’s replaced, I shouldn’t drive it much. »→

Tropical Storm Higos

Tropical Storm Higos (“Pablo”) has been marching across the Philippines for two days, and we are getting beaucoup rain in Luzon! Ramadan ended today, so all Republic of the Philippines government employees were excused from work, and classes were suspended in public schools. I’d bet that schools will be ‘closed’ tomorrow due to flooding and risks of mudslides, rockslides and drownings. »→
